Visual stimuli for the upcoming weekend March 31st and April 1st
ADC Contemporary & Building Bridges International Art Exchange presents the “Harmonious Tableau” exhibition. This landscape show features work from the members of the f/9 Photography Collective. “Harmonious Tableau” explores the relationship between urban and natural landscapes. Bringing these two together offers the opportunity to experience and appreciate their inherent design elements. The ability to compare natural and urban settings that might have been overlooked initially offers a deeper look into what makes them each inherently beautiful. These two otherwise disparate settings instead inspire the viewer to realize what might be essentially shared in terms of color, texture, and atmosphere. Bringing these images together provide a second chance to appreciate what we might have missed.

Closing reception for FARAWAY, SO CLOSE at Morono Kiang Gallery
Faraway, So Close is curated by Shervin Shahbazi and features works by Sara Jane Boyers, Edward Colver, Willie Middlebrook, Ann Summa, May Sun, Mark Vallen, and Richard Wyatt.
The artists in the exhibit have all built their careers on looking at Los Angeles and entreating others to do the same. Their Photographs highlight some of the unique moments in Los Angeles during the '80s. While some of the images have been published in books or in newsprint, most of them have rarely been exhibited. Faraway, So Close brings together a collection of works that represent a wide spectrum of vantage points capturing moments that only occurred once. Each photograph is a certificate of presence that leads us back to a time that will never be repeated but upon reflection makes the viewer contemplate what has changed and what remains the same.

Check out...
Head on up to Angels Gate Gallery in San Pedro. There's a few exhibits on display worthy of your attention. If nothing else go grab yourself a free copy of the, "History of San Pedro Punk", by Marshall Astor and Angels Gate Cultural Center. It's a beautiful document that glimpses into just one of Los Angeles' many underground music scenes.

My Barbarian at HRLA
A couple weeks back I had the pleasure of not only viewing, but participating with My Barbarian during a recent performance at Human Resources.
-photo gently taken from My Barbarian
As a side note: It's aways nice to learn how much of an ass you're willing to become when you have the spot light, or at least think that you have it.

Hot off the shelf...
Picked up a pair yesterday.
A slimmed down, reinforced mid top with a bit of extra style and class. With the reinforced upper and molded sole, I'll admit that they're definitely a bit stiff right out of the box. However, it's my own personal preference to go with a stiffer shoe that'll soften up over time, 'cause it just seems as though softer shoes wind up becoming something more akin to a worthless noodle shortly following the break in period (or would it be more appropriate to call it the break down period when it comes to such shoes). Then again, maybe that's preference for those outside myself. Who am I to say.
Digressions aside, the bottom line is, if your looking for a well designed, fashionable skate shoe, you may want to consider the Stage 4 from Vans.
I'll be reporting back in few weeks to give a follow up on their performance.....To be continued

Three Bands you need to see and hear.
Micheal Stock of KXLU's Part-Time Punks radio show (Thursdays 4-6pm), puts on an amazing venue every sunday night at the Echo. Last Sunday was a night of darkwave inspired bliss.

At the Getty
Hats off to the Getty, Carrie Mae Weems' exhibition puts the political back into the ambiguous nature of contemporary art. The exhibit closed last Sunday, but if you missed it, her series entitled, "From Here I Saw What Happened, and I Cried", can be linked here, and if that leaves you hungry for more check out her website.
...And if you missed the Weems exhibit, chances are that you missed the Lyonel Feininger exhibit as well. Feininger, an obscure experimental photographer associated with the Bauhaus, was also on display alongside a collection of photographs taken by various students and faculty associated with the school at the time.
Lyonel Feininger and the Bauhaus
While poking around for Bauhaus related images and links, I stumbled upon this gem of a photo, taken by Kevin Cummings.
XXXO-O-O-MY.
